WHAT NOW, COLLECTOR?
Friday, January 2nd, 2009Or: The windshield is more important than the rear window.
I had planned on writing a review on my first half year of collecting. But let’s be honest, those retrospectives bore the hell out of me, especially since the media consisted of nothing but those bits in the last couple of weeks. Who cares what happened in 2008 (apart from the tax office)?
All I want to know is: What will happen now?
My financial situation forces me to refrain from buying artworks at least until February. Even then, I will have to take it slow. And of course I will breach this personal contract if something urgent comes up. I have learned that much.
I will host a party on the 22nd of January, here in my flat in Stuttgart. It will be a combined house-warming & collection-viewing event. So if you are in the area, drop me a line and I will send you an official invitation. Mind you, it will be extremely casual! And nothing like Art Basel Miami Beach, more like “Art Blaster Manchester” … Details to follow later.
2009 will be a little less focussed on art fairs, I guess. I will try and concentrate on galleries and off events instead. I bet there is a lot of interesting stuff out there to see. I’d really like to revisit the UK, Finland and Spain, so if you know of any cool events … (Burning Man and/or Nowhere are out of the question this year, though).
That’s my first outlook, what’s yours?
PS. I have said it before and I will repeat it here: 2009 will be the best year since 1999, so watch out!
